It is split into 5 segments:
1. Gathering – participants identify themselves and there is some preliminary discussion.
2. Presentation: Lou Klepner fleshes out the Community Fiber concept and reports on progress thus far;
3. Discussion: Some lively discourse!
4. Background: Bruce Kushnick details the incumbent’s egregious lack of fulfillment of their obligations/promises.
5. Technology: Prof. Djafar Mynbaev gives a brief overview of the nuts and bolts of photonic communication.

E-waste Recycling Day – Sep 12 2009

recycleThe Ecology Center and Tekserve are partnering to recycle electronic waste (“e-waste”) from New York City residents. Bring your unwanted or broken electronics to the collection event in front of Tekserve to have them recycled responsibly. A list of acceptable materials can be found here. They do not accept home appliances such as microwaves or refrigerators or any electronics from businesses.

The NTIA and RUS have published the database of BTOP applications in Round 1 at
http://www.ntia.doc.gov/broadbandgrants/applications/search.cfm

Of $7.2 billion allotted to broadband under the ARRA approximately $2.4 billion from RUS and up to $1.6 billion from NTIA is available in this first grant round.
